Design Week – September 2009

Here are the top 5 trends and objects heating up the design pages this month:

TREND: PARK(ing) – Reclaiming Urban Parking Spaces

Feeding the meter of a parking space enables one to rent precious downtown real estate, typically on a short-term basis. What is the range of possible occupancy activities for this short-term lease? PARK(ing) is an investigation into reprogramming a typical unit of private vehicular space by leasing a metered parking spot for public recreational and green-focused activity.

OBJECT: ‘Salad Plant’ by Black & Blum

Continuing with the fuzzy environmental theme, here is an amazing pair of salad tongs and a dressing container, which double as whimsical kitchen greenery when not in use.

TREND: The e-Move Solar Filling Station

Tired of having to always go all the way home to fill up your solar-powered vehicle? Me too! e-Move has the answer – the ‘gas station’ of the future.

TREND: Designer Wall Coverings

No more are you limited to the boring wallpaper of the past (Ok – the wallpaper of the past really wasn’t that boring, but I digress). Top designers have given the nod in recent months to projects featuring really funky wall coverings including zany papers, paints and hangings – like the one below.

OBJECT: Autoban’s Wood-Framed ‘Deco’ Sofa

Make your couch stand out when viewed from all sides! A bold but elegant stroke suitable to most indoor environs – just make sure your sofa is the centrepiece of the room.

Sweet! Have questions or want to know where to buy? Please reply and let me know your thoughts! As always if you are looking into buying or selling your Toronto home, call me and we can get the ball rolling.

Until next time,
