Design Week – October 2009

Here are the top 5 trends and objects-of-desire heating up the design pages this month. Prepare to stare in wide-eyed amazement!:

OBJECT: Urban Jewelery by designer Liesbeth Bussche

Concrete spheres become pearls for earrings. A house wears a name chain. Ordinary objects we find around us are lovingly adorned or turned into their own pieces of finery by this innovative artist.

TREND: Over-The-Top Walk-In Closets

Tired of getting dressed like everyone else does? (And no, I don’t mean “one leg at a time”) This cherrywood ‘closet’ by Dan Danenberg is one step away from the Jetsons’ auto-dressing robotic conveyor belt.

OBJECT: The Murakami Chair by Rochus Jacob

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well… this picture contains ten words, but I think they do just fine.

OBJECT: Sheetseat by Efecem Kutuk

Finally! At 3/4 of an inch thick, the Sheetseat represents plenty of funky extra seating you can keep under your bed or sofa. The problems of millions of twenty-somethings are solved.

TREND: Grouping Paintings Together

It’s baaaack! But this isn’t your aunt’s Ikea three-print grouping. Try getting wild with different sizes and by wrapping around corners or in unexpected places.
